The History of Fathers Day Gifts

by admin on April 16, 2010

Like most people including myself you probably assumed that Fathers Day was a result of commercial spin .. invented by the card manufacturers to sell more cards…hmm a popular misconception!

In fact Historians have recorded that there was a tradition to celebrate Father’s Day over 4,000 years ago, when a son carved a father’s day message on a clay card.  We don’t offer clay cards at BoutiqueToYou but we do have some fabulous personalised pictures!

Father’s Day as we know it today originated in the last century, when Mrs. John B. Dodd, of Washington  first proposed the idea of a “father’s day” to honour her father in 1909. The first Father’s Day was observed on June 19, 1910 in Spokane, Washington, but it took many years for the holiday to be officially recognized by President Nixon in 1972.

Today in the UK we celebrate Father’s Day on the third Sunday of June and in recent years the tradition of giving a card or gift and a loving relaxing day has spread to encompass

Grandfathers, husbands, uncles, father in laws and step fathers, and despite what we may think slippers aren’t in fact the most popular Fathers Day present – it is the gift of the humble tie.

We can certainly do better for you than a humble tie for Father’s Day Gifts. No matter how you choose to celebrate Father’s Day we can supply you with a vast choice of alternative and personalised gifts, which are guaranteed to make this year ‘the daddy’ of all Fathers Days.

And back to the history of Fathers Day. The Fathers day tradition has spread far and wide,.although it is not always celebrated on the same day, for example Australia and New Zealand they celebrate Father’s Day on the first Sunday of September whilst Spain and Belgium Father’s Day  is on 19 March. It is now celebrated in over 50 of the world’s countries……….

………So as the Taiwanese would say Happy “Bābā Day” (爸爸節).
