New mums are often both physically and emotionally drained. Often, childbirth doesn´t seem like the hardest part. It is the big change that the little bundle of joy brings with it! Everyone wants to stop by and bring a gift for the new baby but does anyone really think about the new mum? Everyone seems to focus their attention on what they can bring for baby such as baby clothes, toys and baby keepsakes. Aside from some flowers the new mum can tend to be out of the limelight now that baby has safely arrived. This can sometimes lead to her feeling overwhelmed and left out and this is the last thing she needs at such a challenging time.
So, what new mum gift would she really appreciate? Well, if she´s up to it you could arrange a bit of girlie time. Leave the baby with dad or grandparents and treat her to a new hair style at a posh salon or better still book her in for a back massage, facial or a pedicure. Something, that she probably hasn´t done in a while and thinks she probably won´t be able to do again .. ever!
If it´s a bit too soon for her to feel like leaving baby then you could always present her with the gift tokens for a pamper day to have later on down the line. Tell her not too much later, though! Make it a double date so that you know she will use the gift.Otherwise she will probably put it on the back burner and the redemption date will come and go. Once she´´s there and having the treat boy oh boy will she appreciate your thoughtfulness!
The next best new mum gift is always jewellery. Giving the new mum a bracelet or necklace inscribed with baby´s name and birth date and maybe some birthstones is something to treasure forever. This is a lasting gift and if she is a first time mum make sure it is something that she can add to if she goes on to have more babies. There are some lovely pieces of mummy jewellery around and they aren´t all expensive.
These days you can also give mummy jewellery that is functional as well as gorgeous. One particular style of new mum arm candy that I love is a new mum feeding reminder bracelet. These bracelets are ingeniously designed to look fab and funky and sure to jazz up the new mother´s wardrobe. This style of bracelet has hourly indicators in the form of beads and a little charm that can be clipped onto the bead that states the time baby was last fed. Whether mum is breast feeding or bottle feeding – very useful as well as pretty.
So there you go…. put a little bit of thought into choosing new mum gifts and you will surely know that the mother will appreciate your time and effort for a long time to come.
