Is there anyone who doesn’t drink tea, coffee or some other warm, favourite beverage?  Hot drinks kick start our day, calm us down, help us relax. We partner them with chocolate and biccies and some with ciggies so they are a big part of our every day life.

Obviously we all need something to drink them in. First off there were cups and for a long time I think that’s probably all there was unless you used a glass of some sort .. not sure what they would’ve been called .. way back when.. a tankard?  Then as drinking tea and coffee became more of a social thing and not just for heiresses  with nothing else to do other than sip .. then there came mugs.

My Love Affair With Mugs

I was trying to think when I first saw a mug. I can ( unfortunately) go back to the 70′s when I was a kid. I remember my mum making milky coffees for everyone  in thick ceramic olive green and brown mugs. They would be classed as very retro now   – I wished she had kept them.

This must be when my love affair with mugs started. There’s something very satisfying about curling up on the sofa and wrapping your hands around a warm mug. It must be a comfort thing and obviously from my earlier paragraph is linked to childhood memories in some way. So what do I mean by when a mug isn’t just a mug?

Well I  just have to open my ‘mug’ cupboard to see the vast array of cups and mainly mugs for all of our family. We must have one for every family occasion there has ever been in our household. I have had them given as gifts with lovely quotations on, pretty patterned and coloured ones to match our decor.  There are best son ones for my two sons, best dad, best grandma ( for when she is in situ) congratulations on becoming a teenager, best mum in the world ( me of course) . Then there are the mugs that we just bring out for Christmas. Now also we have added a couple of Jubilee ones into the mix!! Next, I’m sure the odd Olympics related one will appear. There are mugs  that have been won and as  free gifts. Why do we keep those? Is this ringing bells with anyone?  The kitchen cupboard that they are all stored in is quite big but they are taking over even that!

‘We’ can’t bear to part with any ..  or is the ‘we’ really ‘me’? I think we are all a bit fixated, really.  I sometimes have an attempt at a  sort out but as soon as I  start going through and putting some to one side on the kitchen worktop for the ’charity bag’  someone will say .. “don’t part with that one  .. I still want that one!”

Now My Mugs Have Evolved To Personalised Mugs!

I always am enthused if someone buys any one of us  another mug to add to our family collection. I  certainly can’t see this obsession waning any time soon. I wonder if I keep them thinking they will be heirlooms .. er .. I think not. Maybe I’m becoming even more sentimental.  However,  my addiction has now gone a step further. Since setting up Boutique To You my love affair with mugs has grown significantly to where now only personalised mugs will do! All of our mugs can be personalised and I love thinking up a special little  message that is meaningful to the person I am giving the mug to.

It would seem that a lot of our customers think like me too and they give them as wedding gifts to the bride and groom. Our most popular set of mugs are these matching pair of ‘posh’ mr and mrs mugs. It would seem the love affair perpetuates from weddings onwards. Then there will be the new home, the new mum one, the new dad one, congratulations on new baby ones, wedding anniversary ones and before you know it the whole nation actually has a kitchen mug cupboard just like mine!

If you have an addiction to personalised mugs just like me  then you can  buy yours here with free delivery, too .. so there really is no excuse to buy another one. Go on .. you know you want to. Sorry!
