Slumdog Millionaire Sweeps The Oscars Board

British film Slumdog Millionaire was the hit of the 2009 Academy Awards, winning eight Oscars including best director and best picture.

The film, set in the slums of Mumbai, also won best adapted screenplay, cinematography, sound mixing, film editing, best original score and best song.

Other awards went to Kate Winslet, who won the best actress Oscar for The Reader and Sean Penn, taking the best actor gong for his role as gay rights activist Harvey Milk in the movie Milk.

Spanish actress Penelope Cruz picked up the best supporting actress award for her role in Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Heath Ledger won a posthumous Oscar for best supporting actor for his role in The Dark Knight.
