Terry Wogan’s ‘Prizes Money Can’t Buy’ auction has enabled a Cheshire woman to arrange a really unusual gift for her husband. Dawn Gibbins MBE donated £20,000 to Children In Need to have a love song written by acclaimed singer Katie Melua.
After securing the prize, Dawn spent an hour on the phone to Katie to give her some ideas for the song’s lyrics, which Dawn has dedicated to her husband, Mark Greaves. Katie says, “I’ve never really written to such a specific idea before so I didn’t know if it would work. The great thing was that Dawn had some fascinating things to tell me about her husband, including his love of literature, medieval English and poetry.”
Dawn, who was clearly thrilled with the song following the preview on Wogan, said “I’m delighted this very special prize will support such a good cause.” The song entitled ‘I’d Be Nowhere Without You,’ was broadcast for the first time, along with millions of listeners, live on Terry Wogan’s breakfast show. It
will be released as an extra song on Katie’s next single, due out around Christmas.
