Would You Buy Your Own Valentine Gift?

by admin on January 7, 2009

I laughed when I first read the article but then thought back to how many of my friends might of done it – you know the ones? They turn up with that smug look on their faces asking you what you got for Valentine’s Day and they are showcasing a pair of diamond earring or a fabulous inscribed  necklace when all you got was a single, wilting  rose wrapped up in cellophane and cheap decoration or a box of supermarkert own brand sugared almonds! And that’s if you’re lucky!

The  article on Reuters.com discussed 1,000 Americans from a recent telephone poll. Apparently there is a BIG discrepancy in what women actually want for a Valentine Gift and what their partners actually buy them and so people fill the void by buying a gift themselves and passing it off as their loved ones gift to them!

Here’s some interesting facts from the article:

Underwear was the top choice for 22 percent of men planning to buy their wives and girlfriends a Valentine’s Day gift. But only 2 percent of women said that’s a gift they would like.

They would prefer jewellery, the survey found, which ranked only fifth on the list of gifts men plan to give.

Men are also more likely than women to fall into the “let’s not exchange gifts” trap, when they agree not to buy each other anything, and then their partners get upset when they take it literally. One in five men fall for this trap, the survey, found. ( So, so true!)

And for those who really don’t want to spend money, the survey showed it is also a day for breakups — 6 million people have broken up with someone on Valentine’s Day.’

Just send your partner a link to our unusual valentine gifts and then everyone will be happy this Valentines Day!
