We all know how stressful our weddings can be. I have often thought as superb as the day is, often it seems easier to be a guest! Here are a few tips for helping the day run smoothly and being as memorable as you intended.
1. Have a definite plan for the morning of the wedding.Don’t spend it on your own. Have your parents and bridesmaids around you. Have a glass of champagne but limit it to just the one as the last thing the day needs is a tipsy bride or a dehydrated one if the weather is warm!
2.Take your time walking up the aisle. I have heard photographers tell brides to slow down! Often in their excitement brides don’t realise they are walking so quickly. Make a conscious effort to slow down and really soak up the atmosphere and that you are after all, the most important person in the room.
3.Check the sporting fixtures. Are there any big rugby or football matches scheduled for your wedding day? There is nothing worse if the minute the men of the wedding are free they scuttle to the bar for the latest results or that there is loud cheering when goals are scored… not good!
4.Give someone the role of being in charge of the more informal things like taking photographs at the reception. All too often the disposable cameras that are on the guest’s tables don’t get used. Give a close friend or young usher the job of going round making sure they are being used and that everyone has a photograph taken. Another good idea is to have a message signing plate.A ceramic plate that comes with a special pen. Everyone writes a little message and later on all it needs is a short spell in the oven for the ink to set and voila – a lovely record of everyone’s special wishes for you both that can be treasured forever.Just make sure that someone is in charge of this and the lid doesn’t get left off the pen otherwise you’ll have a half finished plate!
5. Choose your first dance as man and wife carefully. Unless you are aiming for a comic thread to the reception choose something you can both do and practise it well before hand.If a quick smooch around the dancefloor is the best you can do then at least practise the moves so that you both feel some level of comfort doing it. Of course, if you both have professional lessons beforehand then your guests will need to be prepared to be amazed. Maybe you might end up on Youtube but at least for the right reasons!
Hopefully some of these tips you have already considered but it is so easy with all the big things that need planning for a wedding that some of the smaller things get forgotten til it’s too late.
