Unusual gifts are the best kind and can be formed from the most unexpected sources. For instance, many people have double prints hanging around in their house. But what do we have them for? They’re just going to lie there year after year and maybe one or two will get put in frames? I like to keep in touch with people via the means of a good old letter. Receiving an email just isn’t the same as something handwritten that comes from a postie! I decided to look through the double prints and send a selection (with a letter) to friends that I want to catch up with and surprise. I’d love to get a random bunch of photos from a friend! Alternatively, it would also be a really nice gift idea to put one of you and the recipient in a frame.

Size is no reflection of the time and thought that is put into a present. From the tiniest piece of jewellery to the biggest car, the amount of time spent choosing a present is normally the best way to tell how thoughtful the person has been rather than just throwing money at it. Practically anyone can be flash, but it’s the little details or the fact that you’ve listened to subtle hints that will make someone smile. For example, a friend of mine had lost her tweezers and had mentioned this in general conversation to her husband who had remembered this and got her some as a stocking filler for Christmas. She was over the moon because of the fact he’d listened and remembered which means just as much if not more than any other present.

However, I do like big presents too! Jewellery in particular quite often has a hefty price tag but it a teeny tiny present. It’s more the quality and sometimes the brand name that adds to the cost. If you were rich enough, you could feasibly spend as much on a piece of jewellery as you would on a car or luxury holiday! Of course, any of these would be graciously accepted – especially a car!
