I remember reading an article and it really made me chuckle about a survery asking people whether or not they buy Valentine´s Day Gifts for themselves. I stopped to consider how many of my friends might do it or had maybe done it in the past. A few names sprang to mind quite quickly. You know the ones? They turn up with that smug look on their faces asking you what you got for Valentine’s Day and they are showcasing a fabulous pair of diamond earrings or a to die for inscribed necklace when all you got was a single, wilting rose wrapped up in cellophane or a box of supermarkert own brand sugared almonds! And that’s if you’re lucky!
Why would we do this do you think? Maybe it´s to appear more loved up or that there is a big , big gap between what romantic gift we would like and what we actually get so we show the world that our partners, boyfriends, husbands and fiances have us down to a tee and get the gift giving spot on by treating ourselves and putting a front on to the world. It´s that age old dilemma isn´t it where we all think everyone is more loved up than we are in our relationships and the truth is nobody really is because maybe we are all pretending? Incidentally, I don´t want to sound cynical here. I love Valentine´s Day and all the romance it has to offer .. sometimes .. if I point my husband in the right direction and drop enough hints. It´s too soon after Christmas for his mind to be in full swing about having to think about more gift ideas for me!
Apparently there is a BIG discrepancy in what women actually want for Valentine´s Day Gifts and what their partners actually buy them and so people fill the void by buying a gift themselves and passing it off as their loved ones gift to them!
Underwear seems to always be the top thought of men planning to buy their wives and girlfriends a Valentine’s Day gift. But only 2 percent of women said that’s a gift they would really like. Unless of course they had dropped a hint about our gorgeous hand make silk side tie knickers. They can be made in sizes 6 to 20 and come in a range of sumptuous jewel like colours such as gold, lipstick red, mint, ivory, violet and hot pink. The best bit about them and what has kept them continuously on our customer´s best seller list is that they can be embroidered with your wife´s name i.e. ´Mrs Williams´ or if you not married then maybe a short, cryptic message that only the two of you understand! This will score you an awful lot of brownie points.
Many women prefer the thought of jewellery as a romantic gift idea but they don´t often get it. Maybe jewellery seems to a guy like a long haul round the hight street shops but the beauty of shopping on the internet means that you can find exactly what you want in a few clicks. The best tip I can give is make the jewellery gift a personalised one. Just a little bit more thought and not always more money will mean that you are climbing high again on her ´favourite people´ list when she sees the effort you have gone to.
Men are also more likely than women to fall into the “let’s not exchange Valentine´s Day Gifts” trap, when they agree not to buy each other anything and then their partners get upset when they take it literally. Lots of men fall for this trap ( So, so true!). My advice? If your partner or wife says this to you .. have a back up plan because they rarely ever mean it. Take it from me. I´m a woman and I´ve said it and I´ve NEVER really meant it.
And for those who really don’t want to spend money, apparently St. Valentine´s Day is also a top day for breakups — millions of people have broken up with someone on Valentine’s Day. Sad but true. It´s up there with a Christmas break up. Scrooge would have been proud but Cupid would cry buckets!
